SPEAKER INTERVIEW: Carla Bailo, ECOS Consulting LLC
In our latest speaker interview, we spoke
to Carla Bailo, President and CEO of ECOS Consulting - COS Consulting.
ECOS Consulting LLC is an Engineering consulting company dealing primarily with electrification and computer operated vehicle systems (ECOS). Carla also works in the education consulting space, having spent time in academia and being on academic boards.
What do you think sets your company apart from your competitors?
The consulting space is very crowded, but my combination of engineering product development, executive management, and academia is quite unique, so I can study complex problems holistically and think more about societal impacts.
Are there any new technology developments that you are working on at the moment?
Predominately, I am concentrating on EV and how to make this transition properly and without unintended consequences. This also applies to automated vehicles. How to merge these new technologies into public policy, legal, and insurance is a challenge and needs several viewpoints to consider. Smart cities and smart roadway design for the mobility ecosystem are essential.
What are the biggest challenges facing the injection molding industry today, and how can this be overcome?
I'm not sure that there are significant challenges, in fact, there may be more opportunities.
How do you see the sector developing in the next five to ten years?
As the auto industry moves to more of a MAAS (mobility as a service) model vs. ownership, customers will want personalization and parts will need to be replaced more often. Specialty parts, replacement parts that can be quickly made, will be vital. Additive manufacturing should be analyzed in sync with injection molding.
You are Speaking at the Injection Molding and Design Expo, what are you most looking forward to?
It's always a pleasure to be with a group of polymer experts, as my academic degrees were mechanical engineering with specialization in materials science, predominately polymers.
